iAnother month gone, and fishing is still pretty good! Our good friends, Charlie and Tim were here for most of the week, hunting the bass early in the AM and later in the afternoon. On days that they did not get rained out, they did pretty well, with over 20 one day. Still in about 3-4 feet of water, around the wood and cypress trees. They used the all popular topwater hard baits and Senkos. We have had fish up to 7 1/2 lbs. this past week. The Wheeler gang left this morning, after catching some shellcrackers, 'but we are having stormy weather and fishing has been hit or miss depending on the rain. I caught a lost shellcracker off the boat ramp yesterday, but only bluegills there otherwise. Reports from neighbors tell me that there are shellcracker beds over near the Garcia locks, at the culverts. The water is kinda' stirred up because of the structures being open at the high bridge, and that probably is giving the fish a lot of food coming through. Charlie's son and grandson came in the last of the week and they caught a bunch of bass. Word is that they are like footballs; fat as they are long, and lots of our baby bass are grabbing at the topwater. They are pretty fish. Catfish are still plentiful, especially at the mouths of the creeks where the water is moving. And, our water level is good, so no problem with launch. The 4th of July is next weekend and we hope that you all get out and enjoy yourselves safely, and if you want to catch a mess of fish for a fishfry, this i s the place to come. FLyfishermen are still doing pretty good , especially in the M canal. Till next week, good fishing and God Bless. |

If you want to know about HOT, come to Florida! It was 101 degrees yesterday with a heat index making it about 112! And, if you are going to go fishing anywhere, go at the crack of dawn and be back on land, in the AC by 10:30 or so. We have had company from Tennessee and they didn't do well with this heat. For that matter, we closed up at noon yesterday and it was unbearable. However, putting all that aside, the bass fishing here on Blue Cypress has been terrific! The water levels don't allow the fish to get back into the marsh, and they are out still around the wood, or in the grasses each morning until the heat forces them deeper. It has been great for going on 3 weeks now. Rain is forecast all week, scattered, but the water level is about the samel. The St. Johns' finally shut the locks on M so outr levels stay, except for what the trees and drinking and evaporation. There are shellcrackers too. Jeff, Don and John, all neighbors found a very large bed and caught all they wanted this past weekend. Bluegills are hitting poppers and the catfish are eating anything they can get. It has been a bit cooler today, and we had an early morning storm come through which should make the fishing even better. SAw some Mayflies again this morning, which is a great thing. Anyhow, for a close to home, short time getaway, think about paying is a visit. We are still doing tours, and still rent boats. We are not stocking shiners until the weather cools off because with the lake water this warm, they don't last long, but the BAng-O-Lures and other topwater are doing their job. Till next week, good fishing and God Bless. |

My favorite kind of report! Fish of most any kind that we have around here are biting and everyone who goes out, comes in smiling! Mark, Dennis and Randy, from Hillsboro County had a great time, using Senkos for the most part and catching a BUNCH of bass. Nothing over about 4 1/2lbs, but enough in numbers to make up for not getting a real biggie! One of my neighbors came over and bought a bookoo of worms, telling me that there was a shellcracker bed by his house! Bluegill arehitting crickets and thefly fishermen are having a good time as well. Most all the action is near wood which is downed trees for the most part, but also around the standing cypress trees. I sold all my Bang-O-Lures, for the 2nd time, and all my Devil's Horses, for the 2nd time, but I have rounded up some more and they have been HOT! Some of our baby bass are hitting those lures and the lures are almost as big as the fish are. Itis great to see numbers, and I surely hope they continue. It gets very warm by 10AM, so the early or late anglers have the best shots at landing good fish, whatever kind you are after. I think nthat by 1PM, I am melted on the porch! So, set the alarm clock, and get out early! Our parking lot has been far from full, due to various reasons, but I think a day fishing is good for the blood pressure, so take a day and give it a try! Can't believe that Jun e is half over! WE are having some much needed repairs on the rental units, but that should be finished this week. If you have an extra day, spend it here. Till next week, good fishing and God Bless. |

Sorry I missed last week! Except for the rain, there was nothing really to talk about, and I got lazy! We have gotten a lot of much needed rain, and the lake is coming up, in spite of the fact that the St. John's is continually draining from the M, but we are up over a foot and that is great news. We don't have many folks fishing, and I know that this economy is one reason why. Gas is going up and jobs are going down. Fishing is good and the bluegills are really biting, as well as the catfish and the bass. Weekend guests were very pleased with their take-home suppers. We are almost finished with the repairs on the rental units. #1 is the last to get the foundation finished. Last years' Fay did a number under the units and we decided it was time to get the work done because we are not back in good ole' hurricane season!! Want you to know ahead of time that we are going to close the shop down on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, beginning in July and continuing through at least August. If you don't have the fishermen, it is difficult to stay open as many hours as we do. WE will be open Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sundays and I willlet you all know when we begin our regular hours again. Park will be open and the camping area and restrooms will be here for use throughout this time. Staycations are the ticket now, so if you want to get away and not have to go too far, give us a call. What a wonderful place to relax and enjoy! Till next week, good fishing and God Bless. |

Frankly, I don' have much to report in the way of fishing, but I can tell you that we have gotten over 7 inches of much needed rain which in turn will allow boats to safely get into the lake and fish! We couldprobably use about 7 more inches, but Joe and I are definitely not complaining! We have had some folks out, mostly in the AM, because we got most of the precip in the afternoons, and bass are being caught, still in the wood and around the cypress trees in the north. I sold all my Bang-O-Lures, got a few more and they are gone too. And they caught fish! Bluegills and catfish are still very plentiful, and the catfish seem to eat mosst anything! We had a 2 small mayfly hatches which is really good news, since this is the first since the hurricanes 4 years ago. That is terrific food for fish! The Abell clan came and stayed with us for Memorial Day. They come every year at Memorial Day weekend and you can't ask for nicer guests! They have been coming here for 13 years. Joe is doing pretty well and we have our fingers crossed that he will continue to improve! He's getting fussy about some stuff, and I take that as an improvement! Hopefully, next week will bring better fishing news, but you all know that I tell it like it is, so bear with BLue Cypress! Still lots of osprey with babies in the nest for you photographers. Till next week, good fishing and God Bless! |
